Helping children understand their feelings, build confidence, and navigate life’s challenges — while supporting parents every step of the way.

Dr. Sophia Lawson
Child Psychologist, MindNest
I’m Dr. Sophia Lawson, a child psychologist dedicated to helping children understand their emotions, build confidence, and navigate life’s challenges in a safe and supportive environment.
At MindNest, I work closely with children and their families, taking a warm, compassionate, and individual approach to every child’s needs. I believe that when children feel understood, supported, and heard, they can develop the confidence and resilience to thrive.
My aim is to create a space where both children and parents feel comfortable, respected, and supported every step of the way.
Every child is unique, and I believe support should be shaped around the individual child and their family. My approach is warm, compassionate, and focused on creating a safe space where children feel heard, understood, and comfortable being themselves.
I take time to understand each child’s experiences, strengths, emotions, and challenges. Through age-appropriate techniques and a collaborative approach, we can work together to develop confidence, emotional awareness, and practical ways to manage difficulties.
Parents are an important part of this journey too. I aim to provide families with understanding, guidance, and practical support, helping them feel more confident in supporting their child beyond our sessions.

Small steps can make a meaningful difference.
Every child has their own personality, experiences, and needs. I offer individualised psychological support designed to help children and families navigate challenges and build positive, lasting skills.
A safe and supportive space for children and young people experiencing emotional, behavioural, or social difficulties.
Support with understanding and managing emotions such as anxiety, worry, frustration, sadness, or low confidence.
Helping children develop practical strategies to understand worries, manage stress, and feel more confident in everyday situations.
Encouraging children to recognise their strengths, develop self-belief, and build a healthier relationship with themselves.
Exploring the reasons behind challenging behaviours and developing positive strategies that work for both children and families.
Practical, compassionate support for parents who want to better understand their child and feel more confident responding to their needs.
The process
I believe that meaningful support begins with understanding. My work is collaborative, flexible, and always guided by the individual needs of each child and family.
We begin with an initial conversation to understand what has brought you to MindNest, what you have noticed, and what you would like support with.
I take time to understand your child’s experiences, strengths, relationships, emotions, and everyday environment. This helps us build a clearer picture of what they may be experiencing.
Based on our conversations and assessment, we agree on appropriate goals and a way forward. Support is tailored to your child’s age, personality, and individual needs.
Through ongoing sessions and practical strategies, we work towards developing emotional awareness, confidence, coping skills, and positive relationships.
Parents are an important part of the process. Where appropriate, I provide guidance, feedback, and practical ideas to help you support your child at home.
A gentle, collaborative journey — one step at a time.
If you’re concerned about your child or simply feel that some extra support could help, I’m here to listen.
Book an initial appointment to talk about your concerns, ask any questions, and explore how MindNest can support you and your child.
Your first step starts with a conversation.
Choosing the right psychologist for your child is an important decision. My priority is to create a relationship built on trust, understanding, and respect, while providing thoughtful support tailored to each child and family.

Because every child deserves to feel heard, understood, and supported.
Every child is different. I take the time to understand their individual personality, experiences, strengths, and needs.
Children need to feel comfortable before they can open up. I create a calm, supportive environment where they can express themselves without judgement.
Supporting a child often means supporting the people around them too. I work collaboratively with parents, offering guidance and practical strategies where appropriate.
There is no one-size-fits-all approach. Support is shaped around each child's circumstances and the goals we establish together.
My aim is to make the process feel approachable and supportive, helping children and families move forward at a pace that feels right for them.
Every family’s experience is different, but many parents share how valuable it can be to have a safe, understanding space for their child.
